Algeria and Somalia Sign Landmark Cooperation Agreements

Algiers, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia presided over a signing ceremony today at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, marking a new era of cooperation between the two nations. The ceremony formalized several agreements spanning various key sectors.

A significant Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Somali Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education. This agreement focuses on strengthening collaboration in the field of higher education, with an executive program outlining specific initiatives for the years 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029.

Further solidifying ties, an agreement was reached between the two governments in the crucial sectors of agriculture and fisheries. This aims to promote sustainable development and knowledge sharing in these vital areas. A separate agreement was also signed concerning animal health, highlighting a commitment to safeguarding livestock and preventing the spread of diseases.

In a move to bolster economic cooperation, Algeria and Somalia also signed an agreement pertaining to the oil, gas, and mining sectors. This agreement paves the way for potential joint ventures and resource development initiatives.

To facilitate diplomatic exchanges and strengthen people-to-people connections, both nations agreed to a visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports. This measure is expected to ease travel for officials and foster greater understanding between the two countries.
