Algiers – Prime Minister Sifi Grib led a government meeting on Wednesday dedicated to examining several important legislative, regulatory, and developmental files. The meeting commenced with a review of the preliminary draft of the Traffic Law in its final reading. This is in line with the President’s instructions issued during the Council of Ministers meeting held on November 2nd. The new version of the law aims to strengthen deterrent measures against traffic violations through the adoption of strict measures and the tightening of criminal penalties, in a serious effort to reduce the increasing number of road accidents annually.
The government also studied a draft executive decree relating to the renewal of the license to establish and operate a fixed electronic communications network open to the public, and related services, granted to Algérie Télécom. The amendments included in the text included a revision of the specifications to keep pace with the technological developments taking place in the sector, particularly with regard to improving service quality, regional coverage, personal data protection, and strengthening cybersecurity.
In the media sector, the government began studying a draft executive decree defining the conditions and modalities for practicing audiovisual production and filming audiovisual works, within the framework of implementing the provisions of Law No. 23-20 dated December 2, 2023, relating to audiovisual activity. This text is an important step towards completing the legal system regulating the sector, ensuring clearer professional framing and support for national production in the audiovisual field.
The government also listened to a presentation on the importance of the accreditation, conformity, and certification system for research and innovation products, and the role it can play in promoting a knowledge-based economy. This endeavor is expected to contribute to the establishment of a national accreditation and conformity network covering various value chains in the fields of industrial production and services, enabling the valorization of the outputs of universities and scientific research centers in the service of national development.
DZWatch will continue to follow these developments and provide updates as they become available.
