Israeli Airstrikes Target Southern Lebanon Amid Tensions

Israeli military forces escalated operations in Southern Lebanon early Thursday, conducting a series of airstrikes targeting areas near Nabatieh and Tyre. The strikes come amidst already heightened tensions in the region.

Reports indicate that Israeli warplanes launched two strikes near the town of Tyreflsiya, in the Tyre district of Southern Lebanon. Additionally, a house near the border town of Aitaroun, in the Bint Jbeil district, was reportedly hit.

According to reports, Israeli warplanes struck the Khanouq area in Aitaroun, Nabatieh Governorate, with two air-to-surface missiles. Shortly after, the western outskirts of Tyreflsiya were reportedly targeted in multiple waves of airstrikes.

The Israeli military released a statement confirming the strikes, asserting they targeted areas in Southern Lebanon. The statement claimed the targets included weapons depots and underground infrastructure allegedly used by Hezbollah.

The Israeli military further alleged that these sites were located near civilian areas, accusing Hezbollah of using the local population as human shields. The statement also asserted that Hezbollah continues to rebuild facilities throughout Lebanon, and the presence of such infrastructure and activities constitute a violation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon.

Earlier, Israeli artillery reportedly shelled an open area near the town of Meis al-Jabal in Southern Lebanon. The Lebanese-Israeli border has witnessed increased military activity, with the Israeli military conducting daily raids on several towns, claiming to target Hezbollah operatives, leaders, and weapons depots. There has been no immediate response from Hezbollah or the Lebanese Army.

Tensions have been rising in recent weeks, with Israel reportedly increasing the frequency of its violations of the ceasefire agreement brokered in November 2024. Israel continues to occupy several strategic hills in Southern Lebanon, seized during the last conflict, as well as other Lebanese territories occupied for decades.
