Algiers, Algeria – Security services in Algiers have launched an urgent appeal to the public for assistance in identifying potential victims and witnesses related to a fraud investigation. The appeal, issued by the administrative district of Bab El Oued, concerns a suspect allegedly involved in a sophisticated scheme to defraud citizens.
According to authorities, the suspect, identified as (A. A.), is accused of impersonating an employee of a public institution. He allegedly used this false identity to gain the trust of his victims and subsequently steal their money. The appeal, authorized by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bab El Oued Court and based on Article 26 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, seeks to broaden the scope of the investigation.
DZWatch has learned that the ongoing investigation suggests there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Police believe that these unreported cases could be crucial in understanding the full extent of the suspect’s fraudulent activities and the methods he employed.
In a statement, the Algiers security directorate urged anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this fraud, or who possesses any information related to the suspect, to immediately contact the Wilaya Judicial Police Service – Lower Casbah Urban Security, which falls under the Bab El Oued administrative district security apparatus. Alternatively, individuals can report to the nearest police station across the country to file a complaint or provide testimony that could prove decisive in this case.
This appeal underscores the national security policy aimed at strengthening cooperation between law enforcement and the public. It also reflects a growing concern over increasingly sophisticated fraud tactics, particularly those involving impersonation of public officials, which have become more prevalent in recent months.
