Algeria Responds to Mali Junta’s Accusations in Uganda

DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria has issued a firm response to statements made by the Foreign Minister representing the ruling junta in Mali. The remarks, delivered during the Non-Aligned Movement ministerial meeting in Uganda, were deemed baseless and offensive by the Algerian delegation.

A spokesperson for the Algerian delegation stated that the accusations originated from a mouthpiece of the military regime currently in power in Mali. These individuals, they said, are presiding over a period of corruption and instability within the country. According to the Algerian side, the comments are so devoid of truth that they barely warrant a response.

“The junta in Bamako is disseminating falsehoods at the same rate as their failures accumulate,” a source stated. They further emphasized the importance of the international community understanding the reality of the situation in Mali, a truth that the junta is allegedly trying to conceal.

Algeria contends that Mali is governed by a military regime that seized power through unconstitutional means, leading to isolation and suspension by the African Union. The primary concern of this regime, according to the Algerian perspective, is to deflect blame for its numerous failures onto external actors. They are reviving old scapegoating strategies, with little success, the source added.

“Everyone in the region, indeed across the African continent, can attest that this junta has brought misfortune to Mali,” the Algerian spokesperson said. “They are the root cause of the suffering and instability, solely responsible for the disasters their thirst for power has inflicted upon our brotherly nation. This includes security unrest, instability, and unprecedented economic and social decline.”

Algeria maintains that this is the unvarnished reality in Mali. Any claims to the contrary are simply misleading maneuvers by a regime that lacks judgment, whose deceptions no longer fool anyone.
