Washington D.C. – President Donald Trump announced Friday that he has directed the Justice Department to investigate the alleged connections between the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and former President Bill Clinton, as well as Clinton’s Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers, and others.
Trump accused Democrats of attempting to revive what he termed the “Epstein hoax,” despite the Justice Department’s release of 50,000 pages of documents. He stated on his Truth Social platform that this effort is a diversionary tactic to distract from the Democrats’ “failed policies and losses,” specifically citing the recent government shutdown controversy.
“The Democratic Party is in complete disarray and doesn’t know what it’s doing,” Trump wrote. He further claimed that some “weak” Republicans have fallen prey to the Democrats’ scheme due to their naiveté.
The President asserted that Epstein was a Democrat and therefore “their problem, not ours.” He urged people to “ask Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Summers about Epstein, they knew all about him.” Trump also told Democrats not to waste their time on him, as he has a country to run.
Congressional Democrats’ Allegations
Trump’s statement follows the release of emails by Democratic members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. These emails purportedly suggest that Trump was aware of Epstein’s abuse of underage girls, a claim that has angered the White House.
The Democrats cited correspondence between Epstein, author Michael Wolff, and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking-related charges. The House Oversight Committee Democrats stated that Epstein wrote in private correspondence with Maxwell in 2011 that “Donald Trump spent hours at my house with one of the victims of sex trafficking.” They also pointed to a 2019 email exchange with Wolff in which Epstein allegedly stated that Trump was aware of the girls.
White House Response
The White House has condemned the Democratic representatives’ release of the emails, accusing them of attempting to smear Trump’s reputation. The President has consistently denied any knowledge of Epstein’s sexual exploitation activities.
