Algeria’s President Takes Steps to Improve Education, Food Security, and Citizen Welfare

President Tebboune stressed the importance of education, calling it “a pillar of the state’s organized social character.” He directed the government to take the following steps to improve education:

Exempt poor and weak municipalities from the burden of funding primary schools.
Give the state full responsibility for primary schools in poor and weak municipalities.
Establish a national school meals board to oversee the school meals program.
Create a solidarity fund to provide financial assistance to families with low incomes to help them pay for school fees and supplies.
Pay school fees at least one month in advance of the start of the school year.
Develop a forward-looking vision that includes deep reforms to improve the quality of education and better support students.
Food Security

President Tebboune directed the government to take the following steps to ensure food security:

Take strong measures to crack down on corruption in the agricultural sector.
Continue to subsidize the prices of essential imported goods.
Ban the import of legumes outside the National Professional Grain Board, with a clear definition of the price of the product.
Allow the exclusive import of fresh red and white meat to meet national needs and help lower prices.
Encourage private investment in cold storage facilities to maintain market balance throughout the year.
Instruct the government to purchase farmers’ products to protect them from spoilage, as part of the establishment of a national agricultural products board.
Maintain the national strategic stockpile of agricultural and food products.
Develop a clear communication policy to inform citizens on a regular basis about the availability of various essential goods.
Involve governors in distinguishing between inventory within the production chain and storage for speculation.
Determine daily consumption of consumer goods by establishing laboratories that provide accurate and updated statistics on a regular basis.
General Directives

President Tebboune also directed the government to take the following steps:

Release the basic laws for teachers, professors, and health professionals by the end of the year.
Redouble efforts to better address the daily concerns of citizens.
In conclusion, the cabinet approved decrees appointing and removing officials from senior positions in the government.
