President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday, during which key decisions were made regarding regional development and major infrastructure projects. The meeting addressed several important presentations, including the promotion of administrative districts in the High Plateaus and the South to fully-fledged provinces, progress on the Gara Djebilet mine project and the Tindouf-Bechar railway line, the construction of a 500-bed university hospital in Constantine, and the acquisition of equipment for the development of digitalization.
Following a presentation by the Prime Minister on the government’s activities over the past two weeks, and discussions by the ministers, President Tebboune issued the following directives:
General Directives:
The President ordered:
- An investigation into the causes of the recent fires that occurred simultaneously in several provinces.
- The Minister of Finance to prepare a draft law to increase the minimum wage.
- The Minister of Finance to prepare a draft law to increase unemployment benefits.
- Continuous monitoring of public spaces for security and cleanliness across the country.
- Enforcement of cleanliness standards for public and private transportation vehicles in all cities, especially in Algiers and tourist areas.
Promotion of Administrative Districts to Provinces:
The Council of Ministers approved the promotion of 11 administrative districts in the High Plateaus and the South to fully-fledged provinces. These include Aflou, Brika, Ksar Chellala, Messaad, Ain Oussera, Boussada, El Bayadh Sidi Cheikh, El Kantara, Bir El Ater, Ksar El Boukhari, and El Aricha.
President Tebboune instructed the immediate completion of administrative procedures with the two chambers of Parliament.
Tindouf-Bechar Railway Line:
The President instructed the Minister of Public Works to prepare for the inauguration of the new railway line linking Tindouf and Bechar, across all its sections, in January 2026. The official launch of the railway will be a national celebration, marking Algeria’s entry into a new era of major economic developments.
Gara Djebilet Mine Project:
Further details regarding the Gara Djebilet mine project were also discussed, with specific instructions issued to ensure its timely and efficient development.
