Algerian Interior Minister Stresses the Need for Disaster Preparedness

Algiers, Algeria – September 14, 2023 – Algerian Interior Minister Ibrahim Murad has stressed the need for disaster preparedness in the country, particularly during the autumn and winter seasons.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new governor of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Murad said that the government is taking a proactive approach to addressing the risks of flooding and other natural disasters.

“We must be prepared for the worst,” Murad said. “We must work with local authorities and communities to develop plans and procedures to protect lives and property.”

Murad also praised the progress that has been made in developing the 10 newly created provinces in Algeria. He said that these provinces are a key part of the government’s strategy to promote economic development and social progress.

Specifically, Murad highlighted the construction of the National Road 6, which will connect the cities of Reggane, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and Timiaouine. He said that the road will open up new economic and social opportunities for the region.

In addition, Murad announced the creation of a free trade zone in Timiaouine. He said that the zone will boost economic activity in the region and position Algeria as a gateway to Africa.

Murad concluded by saying that the government is committed to working with all stakeholders to promote local development.
