Tipaza, November 16, 2025 – Initial assessments reveal significant damage to forest areas and agricultural lands in Tipaza following the recent wildfires. According to a statement made by the Wali of Tipaza, Mohamed Amine Benchaoulia, approximately 191 hectares of forest and fruit-bearing trees were destroyed in the blazes that ravaged four municipalities in the western part of the province last Thursday.
The Wali, in an interview, stated that field investigation committees have not reported any significant damage to residential properties. He emphasized the government’s commitment to compensating farmers for their losses.
The initial evaluation conducted by the field investigation committees, which began their work to assess the damage, indicates losses of crops, fruit trees, irrigation equipment, livestock, and beehives. Authorities will submit reports to central government entities requesting financial allocations to compensate the affected farmers once the investigations and census operations are complete.
Efforts to rehabilitate the affected forest areas within the municipalities of Beni Milleuk, Larhat, Moussaoulem, and Hadjera Ennous will be undertaken through extensive reforestation campaigns involving civil society organizations.
Regarding the cause of the fires, the Wali of Tipaza explained that security services have launched thorough investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the outbreaks. The findings of these investigations will be released upon their conclusion by the relevant authorities. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
