Cleanliness Mandate Issued for Public Transport Vehicles

Algiers, November 16, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued a directive mandating strict adherence to cleanliness standards for all public and private transport vehicles operating across the country.

The President’s order, delivered during a Council of Ministers meeting held earlier today, emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining hygienic conditions within vehicles serving the public. The focus is particularly on Algiers and other regions with significant tourism sectors.

“Maintaining cleanliness in our public transport systems is paramount,” stated President Tebboune. “It reflects the civility of our society and directly impacts the quality of life for our citizens.”

The new mandate requires owners and operators of buses, taxis, and other forms of public transit to ensure their vehicles are regularly cleaned and maintained to a high standard. This includes the interior and exterior of the vehicles, with specific attention to the removal of litter and the disinfection of surfaces.

Furthermore, President Tebboune directed authorities to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts in public spaces throughout the nation. This includes enhanced security measures and a renewed focus on maintaining cleanliness in all public areas.

The directive aims to create a cleaner and more pleasant environment for citizens and visitors alike, thereby improving the overall image of Algeria. The government hopes that this initiative will encourage a greater sense of civic responsibility and contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly society.

Authorities are expected to announce further details regarding the implementation of the new regulations, including potential penalties for non-compliance, in the coming days.
