Algiers, DZWatch – The capital’s public transportation system has received a significant boost with the addition of 30 refurbished buses. The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation announced the deployment of these buses to reinforce routes within the administrative district of Sidi Abdellah.
According to a statement released by the ministry on Monday, the handover was overseen by the Director-General of ETUSA (the Urban and Suburban Transport Enterprise of Algiers), Issam Guidoum, alongside the Delegate Wali of the Administrative District of Sidi Abdellah, Ben Haddou Djamel Abdelmoumen.
The newly refurbished buses will serve key locations including the University Train Station, Tessala El Merdja, Rahmania, Sidi Benour, Zaaatria, Mactaa Kheira, Ben Aknoun, and Tafourah. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and accessibility for residents across these areas.
In related news, the ministry also announced the establishment of a train station construction project in the 1st of November neighborhood in the municipality of Rahmania. This project is designed to enhance rail connectivity and facilitate the movement of residents in the southern part of the administrative district. The new station will provide a vital link for commuters and contribute to the overall efficiency of the public transportation network.
The ministry emphasized that these actions are in direct response to the directives of the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, aimed at improving public transportation services and facilitating the movement of citizens, particularly in the suburbs of the capital and towards new urban centers and cities. ETUSA is expected to manage the new fleet.
