Algiers – Algeria and Germany are deepening their collaboration in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy and technological advancements. Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, received a high-level delegation from Siemens Energy on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the ministry headquarters.
The meeting, led by Siemens Energy’s General Manager for the Middle East and Africa, Dietmar Siersdorfer, underscores Algeria’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in the energy domain, particularly in renewable energies.
The discussions centered on expanding cooperation between Algeria and Germany, specifically in the electricity sector, green hydrogen production, and technological development projects in conjunction with Sonelgaz, Algeria’s national electricity and gas company.
Minister Adjjal emphasized the Algerian government’s keenness to bolster economic partnerships with Germany, highlighting the importance of creating new avenues for cooperation to restore Algerian-German economic relations to their former prominence. He also stressed Algeria’s interest in attracting strong and reliable global players in the energy sector, noting Algeria’s strategic location and capabilities within the African market as an opportunity to enhance the presence of German companies on the continent, based on a win-win approach.
Siersdorfer expressed Siemens Energy’s appreciation for the existing level of cooperation with Sonelgaz, affirming the German company’s desire to develop joint strategic projects in Algeria, recognizing its economic weight and growing role in the African energy market. “Algeria is a strategic partner in both Africa and the Middle East,” Siersdorfer stated.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop a joint roadmap to enhance cooperation in the coming period. This roadmap will support Algeria’s vision for energy transition and diversification of sustainable sources.
