Algiers, November 18, 2025 – Algeria has voiced strong concerns regarding the deteriorating security situation in Mali, directly linking it to the Malian authorities’ withdrawal from the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement, which originated from the Algiers Process. According to Algerian officials, pursuing a military solution in Mali “carries the seeds of civil war and threatens regional security.”
The warning comes as tensions escalate in the region, with Algeria reiterating its commitment to supporting Mali based on deep historical ties and a shared destiny. Algiers urged the Malian government to return to an inclusive political process and engage in dialogue with all parties, free from external interference. The emphasis on internal dialogue aims to foster a sustainable resolution to the ongoing crisis.
During a recent address, Algerian officials underscored Algeria’s unwavering support for Mali, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and negotiated settlement. They highlighted the potential for a military approach to exacerbate existing ethnic and political divisions, leading to a protracted conflict with far-reaching consequences for the entire Sahel region.
Furthermore, Algeria affirmed its commitment to upholding its principled stances within the United Nations and other international forums, advocating for just causes, including the Palestinian issue and the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. Algeria also pledged to continue supporting peace and stability efforts in the Sahel region.
DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation in Mali and the broader Sahel region, providing in-depth analysis and updates on this critical issue.
