Algiers, November 21, 2025 – Algerian international footballer, Amine Gouiri, has announced he will not participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, set to begin on December 21st. The news comes as a blow to fans of the ‘Les Verts’ (The Greens), as Gouiri is considered a key player in the national squad.
In a recent media appearance on beIN Sports, Gouiri stated, “I will not be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025. Unfortunately, this is the reality.”
The Olympique Marseille striker has been struggling with a shoulder injury that required surgery in October. “I wanted to undergo the surgery before last month, but I couldn’t,” Gouiri explained. “It’s been a difficult period. We conducted a series of medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury, and it became clear that the best option was to undergo surgery.”
Gouiri acknowledged the challenges faced by professional athletes. “This is part of a footballer’s life. We must be patient, and with proper treatment, I hope to return stronger than before,” he said.
Despite the setback, Gouiri expressed gratitude for the support he has received. He praised the warm welcome he experienced upon arriving in Qatar for treatment, stating, “I received a wonderful reception here at Aspetar, and I was able to work with excellent experts who provided me with all the support I needed.”
The absence of Gouiri will undoubtedly be felt by the Algerian national team as they prepare for the prestigious tournament. However, the focus now shifts to ensuring his full recovery and return to peak performance in the future. DZWatch will continue to provide updates on Gouiri’s progress and the Algerian national team’s preparations for AFCON 2025.
