Kyiv and Washington are preparing for discussions in Switzerland regarding potential pathways to ending the conflict in Ukraine. Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security Council, announced the upcoming talks, signaling a renewed diplomatic effort to find a resolution.
Umerov stated that senior Ukrainian and American officials would be engaging in consultations in Switzerland in the coming days, focusing on parameters for a possible future peace agreement. The discussions are expected to center around proposals and frameworks for de-escalation and eventual cessation of hostilities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree formalizing the Ukrainian delegation for these critical talks. The delegation will be tasked with engaging with both Washington and Moscow, exploring avenues for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis. The Presidential Office has indicated that Kyiv will be consulting closely with its partners in the coming days to coordinate strategies for ending the war.
According to a statement released by the President’s office, Zelenskyy has approved the formation of a delegation, led by his chief of staff and comprised of senior security officials. The statement also included directives for the negotiations themselves. The statement emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to peace while underscoring its determination to defend its national interests and the foundations of European security.
“Ukraine will never be an obstacle to peace,” the statement asserted, “and representatives of the Ukrainian state will defend the legitimate interests of the Ukrainian people and the foundations of European security.” The upcoming talks represent a significant step in the ongoing efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
