Moscow Awaits Geneva Talks Outcome as Potential Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting Looms. The Kremlin has stated it prefers not to discuss the US plan for Ukraine through the media, deeming it ‘impossible and inappropriate’.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Monday that Moscow has not received any concrete information regarding the discussions involving the United States, Ukraine, and European nations in Geneva. He added that a meeting between Russian and American delegations concerning the peace plan is not currently anticipated this week.
“We haven’t seen any plan yet,” Peskov stated. “We read a statement indicating that following the discussions in Geneva, some amendments were made to the text we had previously seen. Well, we will wait. It seems that the dialogue is ongoing, and some contacts will continue. We have not received anything official yet.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy affirmed Kyiv’s commitment to collaborating with its partners to achieve compromise solutions regarding American peace proposals, with the aim of strengthening Ukraine rather than weakening it. During a video address at the Crimea Platform summit in Sweden, Zelenskyy emphasized that “Russia must pay the price for the war in Ukraine,” and that deciding on the utilization of frozen Russian assets is of paramount importance.
Discussions regarding Ukraine’s potential NATO membership and territorial considerations are reportedly on the agenda for a possible meeting between former US President Donald Trump and President Zelenskyy. This meeting could potentially occur this week or the following week, according to reports citing sources connected to the negotiations held in Switzerland on Sunday.
A joint statement released by Kyiv and Washington indicated that both parties have prepared an “updated and revised” peace framework to end the war in Ukraine, following the Geneva talks. Both sides stated that they agreed to continue working intensively on the joint proposal in the coming days and maintain close coordination with European partners. The statement added that “final decisions under this framework will be made…”
