Boumerdes – Sixty-seven years ago, Mohamed Saoudi, known as Si Moustafa, led a small group of freedom fighters in a courageous confrontation against a significantly larger French army contingent in the village of Ouled Ziane, near Lakata, Boumerdes.
On that fateful day, Si Moustafa, along with just four companions, faced an estimated 150 French soldiers. The ensuing battle raged for eleven grueling hours, a testament to the unwavering resolve and fierce determination of the Algerian resistance.
The events of that day in Ouled Ziane have become a symbol of Algerian resistance against colonial rule. Si Moustafa’s leadership and the bravery displayed by him and his comrades continue to inspire generations of Algerians. Their sacrifice serves as a potent reminder of the high price paid for the nation’s independence.
