Kremlin Rejects European Plan for Ukraine as ‘Unconstructive’

Moscow has dismissed a European proposal for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, deeming it ‘unconstructive’ and unsuitable for Russian interests. The statement was made earlier today by Yuri Ushakov, a top aide to President Vladimir Putin.

According to Ushakov, the Kremlin has reviewed the European plan and found it lacking. “Regarding the plans in circulation, we familiarized ourselves this morning with the European plan, which at first glance, is not constructive and does not suit us,” Ushakov told reporters. He also noted the existence of numerous other settlement plans currently being discussed, in addition to the American proposal previously examined by the Russian side.

Several European nations have reportedly welcomed modifications made to a U.S.-backed peace plan for Ukraine during talks held in Geneva on Sunday. German Foreign Minister, Johan Wadefull, affirmed progress in efforts to formulate a peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, specifying that all issues pertaining to Europe and NATO had been removed from the original framework.

Previously, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that any peace plan for Ukraine must secure European approval, emphasizing Russia’s need to participate in negotiations. “It is important for us that a peace plan in Ukraine is not reached without our agreement on issues affecting European interests and European sovereignty,” Merz said on the sidelines of a European-African summit in Luanda. He expressed doubt about reaching an agreement this week, stressing the necessity of Russia’s involvement in the negotiation process.
