London – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to convene a meeting today with key European allies to discuss the ongoing efforts towards a peace plan for Ukraine. The meeting follows a weekend of intense diplomatic activity between the United States and Kyiv, aimed at forging a potential ceasefire with Moscow.
According to sources within Downing Street, Starmer will host representatives from nations willing to actively collaborate on finding a resolution to the conflict. This initiative comes amid growing international concern over the protracted war and its impact on regional stability.
Prior to the recent talks held in Geneva, Switzerland, Starmer, along with other Western leaders, voiced reservations regarding a proposed 28-point peace plan. Concerns centered around potential limitations on the Ukrainian armed forces and the possibility of territorial concessions to Russia.
Following the Geneva discussions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that the revised peace plan contains fewer demands on his country compared to the original proposal. In a statement released earlier today, Zelenskyy noted a significant reduction in the number of contentious points.
“The list of steps necessary to end the war is becoming more actionable,” Zelenskyy stated. “Following Geneva, there are fewer points of disagreement. Several important elements have been taken into consideration within this framework.”
However, the Kremlin remains skeptical. Yesterday, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, dismissed the European plan as “unconstructive and unsuitable for Russia,” signaling the complex challenges that lie ahead in achieving a lasting peace agreement.
