Heavy Snowfall and Torrential Rains Sweep Across Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – Several regions of Algeria are experiencing severe weather conditions, with heavy snowfall and torrential rains impacting daily life. The national meteorological office issued warnings on Thursday, forecasting continued disruptions into the late evening hours.

A special weather bulletin indicated that the inland highlands of Blida, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, and Medea are expected to receive significant snowfall, potentially reaching depths of up to 10 centimeters. This alert remains in effect until 3:00 PM.

Another bulletin cautioned residents in the eastern highlands of Constantine, Guelma, Skikda, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, and Khenchela to anticipate further snowfall. The inclement weather is predicted to persist until 11:00 PM.

In addition to the snow, the meteorological office has also warned of heavy rainfall and hailstorms affecting central and eastern provinces. A specific alert highlighted the risk of thunderstorms in Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, and Bejaia, with rainfall exceeding 40 millimeters expected until 9:00 PM.

Furthermore, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Setif, and Mila are under alert for substantial rainfall, with accumulations ranging between 30 and 60 millimeters.
