President Tebboune Affirms Algeria’s Commitment to Pharmaceutical Development

Algeria is deeply committed to developing its pharmaceutical industry and fostering regional cooperation in healthcare, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed in a message delivered at the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Healthcare Technologies held in Algiers. Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui relayed the President’s address to the assembled delegates.

President Tebboune extended a warm welcome to the African delegations, emphasizing that the World Health Organization’s (WHO) choice of Algeria to host the event reflects recognition of the significant achievements and reforms within the country’s pharmaceutical sector. He highlighted the substantial progress made in recent years, positioning Algeria as a key player in the continental healthcare landscape.

The President revealed that Algeria accounts for over a third of all pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Africa. Out of 649 factories across the continent, approximately 230 are located in Algeria, with over 100 new projects currently underway. This expansion solidifies Algeria’s role as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and healthcare innovation.

President Tebboune underscored Algeria’s strategic prioritization of the pharmaceutical industry as a vital component of national security.This commitment is reflected in the establishment of a dedicated ministry focused solely on this crucial sector.
