African Parliament President Arrives in Algiers for Official Visit

Algiers, November 27, 2025 – The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Chief Fortune Charumbira, arrived in Algiers today for an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Algerian and African parliaments. The visit underscores a mutual commitment to addressing challenges facing the continent.

According to a statement released by the Council of the Nation (Algerian Senate), Charumbira’s visit is framed within the context of bolstering collaboration between the two legislative bodies. The objective is to achieve the Pan-African Parliament’s goals and coordinate efforts in confronting the significant challenges currently impacting the African continent.

Upon his arrival at Houari Boumediene International Airport, President Charumbira was received by Rabah Boughali, Vice-President of the Council of the Nation, responsible for Foreign Relations.

In a statement to the press, the President of the Pan-African Parliament highlighted the purpose of his visit: “I have come to participate in the conference on addressing crimes related to colonialism throughout the history of Africa. You know very well, in Algeria, how you also suffered, how you were deprived, and how many riches were plundered from this country and from any other country across the continent. It is a battle that we must join together in as a continent, including the diaspora.”

“As you know, the African Union, this year, has chosen a theme that aims to address the injustice that occurred in the past, the crimes of the past, and that there must be reparations, there must be restitution, there must be compensation from those countries that committed those crimes during the period of slavery and colonialism, including the artifacts that they took from our countries and put in their museums,” he added.

During his visit, the President of the Pan-African Parliament will participate in the international conference on crimes of colonialism in Africa, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 30th and December 1st, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The conference is expected to draw significant attention to the ongoing need for restorative justice and Pan-African unity.
