Snowfall Shuts Down Key Roads Across Northern Algeria

Heavy snowfall and severe weather conditions have led to the closure of several key roads across northern Algeria, causing significant disruption to transportation and travel. The affected areas include the provinces of Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, and Souk Ahras, where accumulation of snow has rendered certain routes impassable.

In Bouira, the National Road 33, a vital link between Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is closed at the regions of Tikjda (Asnam municipality) and Akouker (Bechloul municipality). Furthermore, National Road 15 is blocked at Col Tirourda (Aghbalou municipality), severely impacting traffic flow.

The province of Tizi Ouzou has experienced widespread road closures due to heavy snow. National Road 33 is shut down at Asoul (Ait Boumahdi municipality), and National Road 15 is closed at the Tirourda Pass (Ifrahounane municipality). Additionally, National Road 30 is blocked at Tizi N’Koullal (Ibodraren municipality) and along the stretch connecting Boghni to Tala Guilef. The Wilaya Road 253 is also closed at the Chlata Pass (Illilten municipality), which connects Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia.

In Souk Ahras, National Road 81 is closed at Ain Soltane municipality, affecting the connection between Souk Ahras and Guelma due to heavy snow accumulation, making it difficult for vehicles to pass.

Authorities are advising travelers to exercise extreme caution, especially in mountainous regions prone to snow and landslides. It is recommended to stay updated on the latest road conditions before embarking on any journey. While many roads remain open, conditions can change rapidly, and vigilance is crucial for ensuring safety. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
