Damascus – Syria has strongly condemned what it describes as an “Israeli aggression” against the town of Beit Jann in the Damascus countryside. According to a statement released earlier today, Syrian authorities are calling on the international community to intervene and halt further actions they deem violations of Syrian sovereignty.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a statement accusing an Israeli patrol of crossing into Syrian territory within the Beit Jann area. The statement alleges a “blatant attack” on residents and their property, leading to clashes as locals confronted the invading patrol.
The Ministry further claimed that following the alleged failed incursion, Israeli forces “targeted Beit Jann with indiscriminate and brutal shelling,” characterizing it as a “war crime.” The statement asserts that the shelling resulted in casualties, including women and children, and caused a significant displacement of residents fleeing the area.
“The Syrian Arab Republic holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for this dangerous aggression and the resulting casualties and destruction,” the statement declared. It further accused Israel of pursuing a systematic policy of destabilization and imposing an aggressive reality by force.
The Syrian government is renewing its appeal to the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations, and the Arab League to take immediate action to end what it describes as Israel’s repeated acts of aggression and violations against the Syrian people. It is demanding decisive measures to ensure respect for international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
The statement concludes by asserting Syria’s right to defend its land and people by all means available under international law and affirms that such actions will only strengthen Syria’s commitment to its rights, sovereignty, and rejection of all forms of occupation and aggression.
Reports indicate that the alleged Israeli incursion into Beit Jann resulted in casualties and injuries. Unconfirmed reports claim three individuals were detained before the Israeli forces withdrew. The alleged incursion was met with resistance from local residents, accompanied by heavy gunfire and reported Israeli aerial activity over the town, triggering a mass exodus of residents to neighboring areas.
