Algerian Council of the Nation Participates in Union for the Mediterranean Meetings

The Algerian Council of the Nation is participating in the meetings of the Standing Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, which commenced today in Cairo, Egypt. This participation underscores Algeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and dialogue within the Mediterranean framework.

According to a statement released by the Council of the Nation, the Standing Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean encompass several key areas, including: the Committee on Political Affairs, Security and Human Rights; the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, Social Affairs and Education; the Committee on Women’s Rights in the Mediterranean Countries; the Committee on Improving Quality of Life and Exchanges Between Civil Societies and Culture; and the Committee on Energy, Environment and Water.

These committees are tasked with formulating recommendations on ways to strengthen cooperation, partnership, and regional integration between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Each committee will focus on areas within its specific mandate, addressing critical issues relevant to the region’s development and stability.

A parliamentary delegation representing the Council of the Nation, as part of a joint delegation from both chambers of the Algerian Parliament, is attending these important meetings. The delegation includes: Mr. Bilal Mohamed Taher (Head of Delegation and Member of the Council of the Nation), Mr. Hamdi Cherif (Member of the Council of the Nation), Mr. Ghanem Fakhr El Din Abdel Raouf (Member of the Council of the Nation), Mr. Abdelhamid Bouchermeh (Member of the Council of the Nation), Mr. Bilal Khaf Allah (Member of the Council of the Nation), and Mr. Mehni Haddadou (Member of the Council of the Nation).

The Algerian delegation is expected to actively contribute to the discussions and contribute to the formulation of effective strategies for enhanced Mediterranean cooperation. This participation reflects Algeria’s dedication to fostering positive relations and addressing shared challenges within the region.
