Rabat, Morocco – Several Moroccan rights organizations and political parties have renewed calls for unified efforts to confront escalating authoritarianism and pervasive corruption impacting various sectors of society.
The Democratic Left Federation (FGD) has voiced serious concerns about the widespread corruption hindering citizens’ access to development and essential services. In a statement, the FGD emphasized that the prevalence of corruption in both public and private sectors, coupled with a lack of transparency in resource management and wealth distribution, has fueled widespread public discontent.
The federation also expressed alarm over rising poverty levels, persistent unemployment among educated youth, precarious labor market conditions, and non-compliance with minimum wage laws. The FGD urged political, labor, and human rights bodies to unite against corruption, exposing exploitative practices that obstruct reform and undermine social justice.
The FGD statement highlighted that control over critical decisions and centers of power impedes genuine democratic transformation, necessitating fundamental reforms across political, economic, and social structures. “The pervasiveness of corruption in the public and private sectors and the lack of transparency in resource management and wealth distribution have created widespread public dissatisfaction,” the statement read.
Echoing these sentiments, the Democratic Labor Path Party ( النهج الديمقراطي العمالي ) asserted that genuine and comprehensive development for the Moroccan people requires eradicating authoritarianism and corruption, establishing a popular democratic system, and severing ties with imperialism. The party pointed to recent scandals within the political and human rights spheres, characterizing them as manifestations of systemic corruption permeating state apparatuses, institutions, and social structures.
The party stated that the country is controlled by a group whose members benefit from rent-seeking, corruption, impunity, and the undemocratic nature of the regime. The party added that the regime continuously reinforces contempt for the people and thwarts their aspirations for a better future.
