Sahrawi PM Urges Correction of European Stance on Western Sahara

The Sahrawi government has emphasized the critical need to rectify what it describes as misrepresentations distorting the European perspective on the Western Sahara issue. This call comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the region’s future and international involvement.

In an exclusive statement, Sahrawi Prime Minister Bachraya Hamoudi Beyoun stressed that the final declaration of the European Coordination of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People should demand clear positions from European nations and key stakeholders concerning the Western Sahara question. He highlighted the importance of accurate and unbiased information influencing European policy.

“It is imperative that European entities understand the realities on the ground and support a fair resolution,” said Prime Minister Beyoun. He reiterated the Polisario Front’s readiness to engage in serious negotiations, underscoring the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations principles.

The Prime Minister also called for urgent appeals from the solidarity conference urging the European Union to revoke all trade agreements with the Moroccan occupation, deemed illegal under rulings by the European Court of Justice. He argued that these agreements undermine the Sahrawi people’s rights and perpetuate an unjust situation.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Beyoun addressed the declining levels of international support for the Sahrawi people, urging the exploration of alternative funding sources. He warned of the adverse consequences of reduced aid on the lives of Sahrawis, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to ensure their well-being.

The Sahrawi government’s statement reflects a growing concern over the international community’s approach to the Western Sahara issue and a determination to advocate for the rights and self-determination of its people. The call for corrected European stances underscores the importance of accurate information and principled engagement in resolving this long-standing conflict.
