Tunis – The Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafati, received a delegation from the Algerian-Tunisian Parliamentary Friendship Group in Tunis. The meeting underscored the importance of continued cooperation and solidarity between the two nations, according to a statement released Friday by the Algerian People’s National Assembly.
During the discussions, emphasis was placed on “working to enshrine this phase in the memory of future generations.” Minister Nafati highlighted the critical need to find joint solutions for issues related to food, energy, water, and climate security to safeguard the stability and development of both countries. He also mentioned ongoing preparations for a meeting scheduled to take place in Tunisia from December 9th to 12th, 2025.
Nafati stated that this upcoming session “will add value to the existing cooperation between Algeria and Tunisia, especially in light of the harmony and mutual respect between the leaders of the two countries.” He also acknowledged Algeria’s role on the international stage and the shared aspiration to strengthen their presence on the African continent. The discussions extended to several regional and international matters, including efforts to reconcile factions in Libya, support for the Palestinian cause, and cooperation in addressing Mediterranean issues.
“The Minister expressed his gratitude to Algeria for its support to Tunisia during the difficult health circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, affirming that the two countries always stand by each other in times of adversity,” the statement added.
The head of the Algerian delegation, Mohamed El Hadi Tebessi, thanked the Tunisian Foreign Minister for receiving the Parliamentary Friendship Group. He emphasized the necessity of capitalizing on favorable conditions to propel the partnership towards broader horizons. Tebessi lauded the significant role played by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in both countries and stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy complementing traditional diplomacy by providing ideas and proposals that serve regional and international issues of common interest.
Members of the Algerian-Tunisian Parliamentary Friendship Group expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and called for creating an environment conducive to achieving further advancements in the bilateral relationship. The delegations agreed to further enhance cooperation in various fields to strengthen the strategic partnership between Algeria and Tunisia.
