The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali, has reaffirmed the Polisario Front’s willingness to engage in serious negotiations, without preconditions, to resolve the Western Sahara issue. Ghali emphasized the Front’s readiness to cooperate with the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and his Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura.
President Ghali stated that the Polisario Front is prepared to enter into genuine and honest talks under the auspices of the UN. The aim is to create an environment where the Sahrawi people can freely determine their future, in accordance with UN resolutions and principles of international law.
Speaking during the 50th anniversary of the Sahrawi National Council’s founding, Ghali stressed the need for vigilance and preparedness. He called for unity and the protection of national achievements, particularly the national unity and the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army. “We are all concerned with dealing with the stage with all that it requires of caution, vigilance, readiness and preparation, with awareness and responsibility,” Ghali said, according to the Sahrawi Press Service.
Ghali further noted that current regional and global circumstances are reminiscent of those prevailing at the time of the Council’s establishment, highlighting the ongoing challenges, threats, and conspiracies aimed at undermining the Sahrawi national liberation project. He suggested that these efforts originate from the same actors who sought to thwart the Sahrawi cause fifty years ago.
The Polisario Front’s commitment to negotiations signifies a potential pathway toward resolving the long-standing conflict in Western Sahara. The willingness to engage without preconditions could pave the way for meaningful dialogue and a sustainable solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Sahrawi people.
