Algeria Eyes Broader Partnerships in Mediterranean Region

Cairo – Algeria is actively pursuing the expansion of its partnerships within the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) framework, aiming to encompass a wider range of sectors that align with its comprehensive economic development strategy. This announcement was made today in Cairo by Mohamed Tahar Bilal, head of the Algerian parliamentary delegation participating in the UfM Parliamentary Assembly summit.

Speaking at the summit, Bilal emphasized Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Mediterranean nations. He highlighted the nation’s significant economic progress and its desire to leverage these advancements through enhanced collaboration across various fields. The Algerian delegation underscored that the nation’s strategic vision involves fostering mutually beneficial relationships that contribute to regional stability and shared prosperity.

‘Algeria is keen to explore new avenues for cooperation with its Mediterranean partners,’ Bilal stated. ‘We believe that by diversifying our partnerships, we can unlock significant potential for economic growth and social development throughout the region.’

The UfM Parliamentary Assembly serves as a crucial platform for dialogue and cooperation among parliamentarians from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It provides an opportunity to address common challenges and promote shared interests in areas such as trade, investment, energy, and environmental protection. Algeria’s active participation in the Assembly reflects its commitment to regional integration and its belief in the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering understanding and building trust.

The focus on expanding partnerships comes as Algeria undertakes significant economic reforms aimed at diversifying its economy and attracting foreign investment. The nation is actively seeking to develop its renewable energy sector, modernize its infrastructure, and promote sustainable development initiatives. These efforts require close collaboration with regional partners, making the UfM an essential forum for advancing Algeria’s national objectives.

The Algerian delegation concluded by reiterating the nation’s unwavering commitment to the principles of the UfM and its dedication to working collaboratively with its partners to build a more prosperous and stable Mediterranean region.
