Algerian actress Amel Bouchoucha is set to make a comeback to Egyptian drama after a seven-year absence. She will star in the upcoming series, ‘Sons of the Shepherd’, taking on the lead female role alongside Egyptian actor Maged El Masry.
Sources close to the production confirm that Bouchoucha has officially signed on to the project and will soon travel to Cairo to join the production team, which has already begun filming initial scenes. This marks Bouchoucha’s first appearance in Egyptian drama since the 2018 series ‘Abu Omar Al-Masry’. That series featured a stellar cast including Ahmed Ezz, Fathy Abdel Wahab, Arwa Gouda, Ahmed El Awady, Monther Rayahneh, and Nadia Konda.
Bouchoucha’s journey in Egyptian drama began in 2014 with the series ‘Underground’, where she played the lead female role opposite Amir Karara. Following that, she remained absent from the Egyptian screen for several years, despite receiving offers for various projects that ultimately did not materialize.
‘Sons of the Shepherd’ is described as a social drama directed by Mahmoud Kamel, with the screenplay and dialogue written by Mina Bebawy, Mahmoud Shukry, Khaled Shukry, and Taha Zaghloul. The series is produced by Raymond Moqar. It is scheduled to air during Ramadan 2026 and will consist of 30 episodes. In addition to Maged El Masry and Amel Bouchoucha, the cast includes prominent actors such as Khaled El Sawy, Ahmed Eid, Nermin El Feki, Injy Kiwan, and Inas Kamel.
Amel Bouchoucha’s recent work includes her appearance in the Syrian drama series ‘Al Sabaa’ (The Seven), which aired during the last Ramadan season. The series explored the world of gypsies within a social and suspenseful framework. The cast featured notable actors including Bassem Yakhour, Jenny Esber, Abdel Moneim Amayri, Amal Arafa, Hala Rajab, Yazan Khalil, Talal Mardini, Tarek Mrashly, and Wafaa Moussally.
The plot of ‘Al Sabaa’ revolves around a mysterious character of the same name, who faces conflicts with powerful forces controlling money and power. Haunted by a painful past, the story intertwines with feuding families vying for influence and interests, intersecting with themes of love and betrayal.
