Algeria is deepening its collaboration with the African Parliament, focusing on supporting just causes across the continent. Salma Bekhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, met with Fortuné Charumbira, President of the African Parliament, during his official visit to Algeria.
The visit coincides with Charumbira’s participation in the international conference on the criminalization of colonialism in Africa and the issue of reparations. This conference, initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and adopted during the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government in February 2025, is considered a pivotal moment for the continent, holding significant importance in establishing justice for Africans and people of African descent.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of cooperative relations between Algeria and the African Parliament. They affirmed their commitment to strengthening the role of this continental institution in defending Africa’s just causes. Discussions encompassed several key issues, including the Palestinian cause and the Western Sahara issue.
Furthermore, they addressed supporting efforts to address the lingering effects of colonialism and to amplify the voice of African peoples within the continental and international systems. Both parties emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration to achieve common goals. The meeting highlighted Algeria’s dedication to fostering strong partnerships within the African continent.
This collaboration underscores Algeria’s commitment to advocating for African interests on the global stage and solidifying its role as a key player in continental affairs. The discussions focused on practical steps to enhance the African Parliament’s effectiveness in addressing challenges facing the continent and promoting sustainable development.
