German club VfL Wolfsburg is reportedly concerned about the potential impact of Algerian international Mohamed Amoura’s participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on their Bundesliga campaign. The club fears that Amoura’s absence could negatively affect the team’s performance.
According to reports, Wolfsburg’s management and coaching staff are closely monitoring Algeria’s preparations for the tournament, hoping for a repeat of Algeria’s disappointing performance in the previous two editions where they were eliminated in the first round. The Algerian national team, known as Les Fennecs (The Desert Foxes), will be aiming to avoid a similar fate in the 2025 edition.
Amoura has become a key player for Wolfsburg, contributing significantly to their attack. He has scored four goals and provided one assist in 11 appearances this season. Despite a recent dip in form, his absence would undoubtedly weaken Wolfsburg’s attacking options, fueling the club’s anxiety.
However, Wolfsburg’s hopes for an early Algerian exit may be overly optimistic. Recent improvements in Algeria’s form, particularly their strengthened defense, suggest that they are a more formidable opponent than in previous years.
Amoura is also a central figure in coach Vladimir Petkovic’s plans. He was the top scorer in the African World Cup qualifiers, netting an impressive 10 goals. This highlights his importance to the national team and strengthens Algeria’s aspirations for a successful AFCON campaign. It remains to be seen whether Amoura will lead his team to glory in the upcoming tournament and whether Wolfsburg’s concerns will materialize.
