Algeria Signs $10 Million Deal to Export Pharmaceuticals to Africa

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria has solidified its position as a rising pharmaceutical exporter in Africa by signing agreements worth $10 million to supply medicines to three nations. The deals, inked on Saturday in Algiers, will see Algerian-made pharmaceuticals shipped to Mauritania, Mali, and Senegal.

The signing ceremony took place during the closing of Clinvest Expo, a healthcare exhibition held in conjunction with the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production. The conference, which ran from November 27th to 29th, focused on strategies to bolster healthcare sovereignty across the continent.

The agreements involve three leading Algerian companies: Top Gloves, Eurl Génise, and Pharma Invest. They will partner with Mauritanian firm King Pharma and its subsidiaries in Mali and Senegal, opening new avenues for Algerian pharmaceutical products in West African markets and expanding regional distribution networks.

Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouidri, and Minister of Health, Mohamed Essadik Ait Mesoudene, attended the signing ceremony, alongside the World Health Organization’s representative in Algeria, Fanuel Habimana. Their presence underscored the significance of the agreements in fostering healthcare collaboration within Africa.

Abdelwahad Kerrar, Vice President of the Economic Renewal Council, lauded the successful organization and high level of participation at the conference. He described it as a “pivotal moment that affirms Algeria’s leadership in sharing its industrial expertise with African nations.” Kerrar added that the “Algiers Declaration,” issued at the conference’s conclusion, will serve as the foundation for a joint action plan aimed at developing an advanced African pharmaceutical industry.

Taieb Khiarhoum, Director-General of King Pharma, praised Algeria’s efforts in hosting the event, stating that Algeria is “transitioning from liberating peoples to liberating the African economy.” He expressed his gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his support of the initiative. The export deals represent a significant step forward for Algeria’s pharmaceutical sector and its commitment to strengthening healthcare across Africa.
