Algiers, October 31, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressed the Algerian people on Friday, marking the 71st anniversary of the commencement of the glorious War of Liberation. In his message, the President emphasized the enduring significance of the sacrifices made by the generation that ignited the revolution.
“As we commemorate the first of November, the day the Algerian people launched their immortal and blessed liberation revolution, we remember a pivotal moment following decades of popular resistance and national struggles,” President Tebboune stated. He highlighted the hardships endured by Algerians facing colonial settlement, resisting its ambitions and aggression, and rejecting the usurpation of their land, the desecration of their history, and the distortion of their identity.
The President underscored that the successive stages of resistance reflected the Algerian people’s unwavering commitment to their land, history, and deep-rooted identity throughout the oppressive colonial era. He described it as a heroic accumulation that led to armed struggle and a comprehensive war of liberation, marked by millions of martyrs, widows, orphans, and wounded. This struggle, he said, solidified the spirit of resistance in the Algerian character and instilled a sense of national sovereignty in the nation’s conscience.
“On this seventy-first anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious War of Liberation, as we celebrate the achievements of generations who fought tirelessly across Algeria, we must draw strength from their sacrifices,” President Tebboune declared. He asserted that this remembrance should serve as a source of collective awareness, rooted in Algeria’s glorious history, and a compass guiding the nation through this delicate phase. This compass, he explained, will steer Algeria towards consolidating the foundations of a rising national state and igniting a unifying national spirit among dedicated patriots and active forces, particularly the youth.
President Tebboune stressed the importance of safeguarding the country against the turbulent regional environment and the global conflicts and fractures in international relations. He emphasized reliance on Algeria’s own capabilities, a liberalized and wealth-generating economy, and the awareness and patriotism of its sons and daughters, who stand ready to build the present and future in the footsteps of the martyrs. He concluded by invoking blessings upon the souls of the martyrs and expressing the unwavering determination to elevate the nation and serve its people.
“Long live Algeria, glory and immortality to our righteous martyrs, and peace be upon you.”
