Algiers – The national qualifying rounds for the prestigious Algeria Quran Award commenced today, marking the 21st edition of this significant religious event. Dr. Youcef Belmahdi, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, officially inaugurated the competition at a ceremony held at the ministry headquarters.
This year’s competition, held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, features the participation of approximately 120 contestants representing various regions of Algeria. The participants are competing across three distinct categories, showcasing their skills in Quran memorization and recitation.
Due to ongoing considerations, the competitions are being conducted remotely via video conferencing over a three-day period. A specialized panel of judges, experts in the rules of recitation and different readings of the Quran, will oversee the proceedings and evaluate the contestants.
The Algeria Quran Award encompasses the following categories:
- National Competition for Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran.
- Incentive Competition for Young Memorizers.
- International Competition for Memorization and Recitation of the Holy Quran.
According to the ministry’s schedule, the International Competition is slated to take place in the month of Rajab, coinciding with the commemoration of Isra and Mi’raj (the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension). The National Competition and the Young Memorizers’ Competition are planned for the holy month of Ramadan.
This annual Quranic event underscores the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments’ commitment to fostering a culture of Quran memorization and encouraging Quranic talent. It is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote the Holy Quran and support its memorizers both within Algeria and abroad.
