Algiers – Algeria and Belarus are poised to enter a new era of economic cooperation, fueled by a shared vision for strategic partnerships across key sectors.
Speaking at the Algerian-Belarusian Economic Forum held recently in Algiers, the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, Amel Abdelatif, outlined a comprehensive outlook for the future of economic relations between the two nations. She emphasized that both countries possess a strong foundation for launching strategic projects in industry, agriculture, mechanics, digitalization, and pharmaceutical industries.
The Minister highlighted the forum as a crucial platform for re-evaluating existing cooperation and opening broader avenues for economic exchange. The event brought together high-ranking officials, including the Belarusian Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, as well as the presidents of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry from both countries, alongside representatives from various economic institutions and organizations.
Minister Abdelatif noted the steadily growing diplomatic ties between Algeria and Belarus over the years. Recent times have witnessed a remarkable dynamic, reflected in high-level reciprocal visits and the activation of political dialogue mechanisms, including the inaugural session of the Joint Committee in Minsk in April 2025.
The Minister confirmed that institutional work is progressing steadily, with three cooperation agreements already signed, ten draft agreements ready for implementation, and three more under discussion, with completion targeted during the upcoming Joint Committee meeting in 2026.
Addressing the ongoing economic reforms in Algeria under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, particularly the new investment law, the Minister stated they have contributed to improving the business climate and creating an encouraging environment for both domestic and foreign investors. She also highlighted a significant increase in the number of investment projects that have become operational between November 2022 and June 2025, reflecting growing confidence in the Algerian market.
Algeria’s available human capital and strategic location were also presented as key competitive advantages for investors. The partnerships aim to bolster economic growth and diversification within both countries.
