Algeria Press Service Celebrates 64th Anniversary, Launches Chinese News Section

Algiers, Algeria – The Algeria Press Service (APS) commemorated its 64th anniversary on Monday in Algiers with a ceremony highlighted by the launch of a new Chinese-language news section. The event was attended by Minister of Communication, Zouhir Bouamama, Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication, Kamal Sidi Said, and the Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers, Amar Takjout, along with other prominent figures from national media institutions.

Minister Bouamama praised the pivotal role of APS, stating that the institution “has not only been a media organization, but a living witness to the transformations of a nation confident in its mission and a reliable instrument reflecting the will of Algerians to shape their narrative and highlight their position among nations.” He recalled the historical circumstances surrounding the agency’s founding on December 1, 1961, emphasizing its “lofty missions of promoting the justice of the national cause and conveying the voice of the Algerian people yearning for freedom.”

Bouamama emphasized the importance of accurate information dissemination in combating misinformation, a challenge that requires “constant readiness and a distinctive media vision that ensures leadership, something the Algeria Press Service has effectively achieved.” He added that “thanks to the strong political will of the highest authorities in the country, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as the efforts of its management, journalists, and staff, the agency has made significant strides in digitalization and diversified its services by providing audio-visual content and multilingual news feeds, enabling it to keep pace with developments and compete with international media organizations.”

The Minister further noted that these diverse content offerings have “enabled the agency and Algeria to address the world, particularly after launching its news platforms in the languages of major countries, allowing it to block those who attempt to present a picture that does not serve Algeria or its higher interests.”

APS Director General, Samir Gaid, highlighted that the agency, having witnessed a crucial period in the liberation revolution, serves as an institution of national memory. He affirmed that APS “is working today to remain faithful to this great legacy and the distinguished path of media service that has always been dedicated to serving the nation and its higher interests.” The launch of the Chinese news section underscores APS’s commitment to expanding its global reach and providing diverse perspectives on Algerian affairs.
