Algerian Labor Union Praises Minimum Wage, Pension Increases

Algiers, Algeria – The General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) has expressed its strong appreciation for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent decision to raise the national minimum wage and increase retirement pensions.

Speaking from Algiers on Monday, Amar Takjout, the Secretary-General of the UGTA, lauded the move as a significant step towards improving the living standards of Algerian workers and retirees. He emphasized that the decision reflects the President’s commitment to social justice and economic equality.

“This is a positive development that will have a tangible impact on the lives of millions of Algerians,” Takjout stated. “The increase in the minimum wage will provide much-needed relief to low-income families, while the higher pension benefits will ensure a more dignified retirement for our senior citizens.”

The UGTA, a powerful labor organization in Algeria, has long advocated for improvements in wages and social security benefits. The union has consistently called for policies that protect the rights of workers and promote a more equitable distribution of wealth.

The President’s decision follows a series of recent measures aimed at bolstering the Algerian economy and addressing social concerns. The government has pledged to continue working closely with labor unions and other stakeholders to implement policies that benefit all segments of society.

The specific details and implementation timelines for the minimum wage and pension increases are expected to be announced in the coming days. The UGTA has pledged its full support for the implementation process and has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the government to ensure a smooth and effective transition.

The move has been widely welcomed by workers and pensioners across the country, who see it as a positive sign of the government’s commitment to improving their well-being.
