National Polio Vaccination Drive Targets 444,000 Children

Algiers, December 1, 2025 – A nationwide polio vaccination campaign has successfully reached nearly 444,000 children across Algeria, according to the Ministry of Health. The first day of the campaign saw 443,566 children vaccinated, a figure the Ministry hails as a positive sign of widespread mobilization and strong parental cooperation.

The vaccination drive, launched on November 30th, 2025, will continue until December 6th, marking its initial phase. Professor Mohamed Seddik Ait Mesoudane, the Minister of Health, officially inaugurated the operation, emphasizing the strategic importance of strengthening collective immunity against polio.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, the Ministry has established over 7,000 vaccination centers throughout the country. Mobile medical teams are also being deployed, implementing a “door-to-door” strategy, particularly in the southern regions, to reach all targeted children aged between two months and five years. Fifty-one regional supervisors are overseeing the operation, responsible for coordination and monitoring to guarantee effective and seamless implementation.

Logistically, more than 5,532,000 vaccine doses have been distributed to the various provinces to ensure sufficient supplies throughout the first phase of the campaign. The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to mobilizing its medical and paramedical teams to ensure the success of this national initiative. Parents are encouraged to visit vaccination centers or welcome mobile teams to protect their children from this debilitating disease. The Ministry urges all eligible families to participate.

This campaign underscores the nation’s dedication to public health and the well-being of its youngest citizens.
