Trump Warns Israel Against Disrupting Syria’s Political Transition

Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump has renewed his warning to the Israeli government, urging it to refrain from any actions that could impede the political transition underway in Syria. The President’s statement comes amid ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions between Tel Aviv and Damascus.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, President Trump stated that his administration is “very pleased” with the performance of Syria’s new President, Ahmed al-Shara, who has been leading the country since the ousting of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024.

“It is crucial that Israel maintains a strong and genuine dialogue with Syria, and that nothing occurs that would interfere with Syria’s development into a prosperous nation,” the President wrote. He further emphasized that Washington has “worked within its capacity” to support Syria’s reconstruction, including lifting what he described as “strong and harsh sanctions” imposed in previous years.

President Trump reportedly spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone on Monday evening, as part of Washington’s efforts to ease tensions between the two countries, according to Israeli media reports. The call followed an Israeli incursion into the town of Beit Jinn, southwest of Damascus, last Friday, which resulted in at least 13 fatalities.

Israel claimed the operation targeted members of the “Islamic Group organization”.

The Syrian state news agency (SANA) reported that Israeli forces conducted two military incursions into the Quneitra countryside in southwestern Syria on Monday, accompanied by gunfire directed at civilian homes. SANA stated that Israeli forces, consisting of three military vehicles, were stationed within the village of Saida al-Hanout, while a drone flew over the area to monitor ground movements.
