Algiers, Algeria – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamat Ali Youssouf, has lauded Algeria’s pivotal role in African diplomacy, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to the continent’s peace and security. Speaking at the opening of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, Youssouf highlighted Algeria’s constructive contributions during its recent tenure on the United Nations Security Council.
“Algeria remains a cornerstone of African diplomacy, thanks to its tireless efforts in championing the continent’s causes and strengthening its unity,” stated the AU Commission Chairperson. He emphasized that Algeria’s contributions are indispensable to the ongoing diplomatic efforts within the continent.
Youssouf also acknowledged the significance of the “Oran Process,” a now-traditional annual meeting that has become synonymous with African solidarity. He described it as a “crucial platform for consolidating African unity and defending the interests of the continent’s nations in various international forums.”
Furthermore, the AU official asserted that Algeria’s recent experience on the UN Security Council demonstrated its exceptional ability to advocate for African issues and amplify the continent’s voice on the global stage. He noted that Algeria navigated a complex global environment marked by unprecedented geopolitical shifts, while steadfastly representing African interests.
