Local Squad Prepares for Sudan, Belaili Eyes AFCON Spot

The Algerian local national team is intensifying its preparations for the upcoming match against Sudan. Coach Madjid Bougherra is overseeing training sessions in Qatar as part of the Arab Cup preparations. The first session saw the participation of 17 players who had completed their club commitments. A light workout was conducted, with Bougherra focusing on initial assessments.

A full training session is scheduled for later today, following the arrival of the remaining players. Five players recently joined the squad in Doha after finishing their club duties, including CR Belouizdad goalkeeper, Chael. Bougherra reportedly excused the new arrivals from rigorous physical exercises, while the rest of the team completed a full session.

Houssam Mrezigue is expected to join the squad on December 7th, as his Russian club initially refused to release him. However, reports suggest a compromise was reached, allowing him to participate in the later stages of the tournament, should Bougherra deem it necessary. The team currently comprises 22 players, with Mrezigue’s arrival pending.

Meanwhile, Yacine Brahimi is facing injury concerns. He participated in the initial training sessions but was limited to individual work due to an injury. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has not provided detailed information regarding Brahimi’s condition and potential return date. His availability for the first match remains uncertain, with a possible return for the second game. However, the team boasts strong wingers like Ounas and Boulbina, potentially mitigating Brahimi’s absence.

Amir Sayoud is also reportedly experiencing some minor physical discomfort, according to sources close to the FAF, but his situation is not considered serious. In other news, Youcef Belaili is reportedly in contention for a spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad. Additionally, Hajj Moussa’s performance continues to impress, and Houari Ferhani is a nominee for a special award.

DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the team prepares for the crucial match against Sudan.
