Moscow – U.S. Envoy Steve Witkow is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today, Tuesday, for critical discussions regarding a proposed peace plan for Ukraine. The meeting comes at a pivotal moment as international efforts intensify to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Prior to Witkow’s visit, several rounds of talks involving Ukrainian, European, and American delegations took place last week. These discussions centered on a 28-point plan, the specifics of which have not been formally acknowledged by the Russian Presidency. However, sources indicate that the Geneva talks resulted in a revised framework for peace.
President Putin has previously stated that the discussions are not yet focused on a draft agreement but rather on a collection of proposals that could potentially serve as the basis for future agreements. These proposals are reportedly linked to outcomes from the Alaska summit held with former U.S. President Donald Trump in August.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to reporters that the Witkow-Putin meeting is slated for the latter half of the day. Peskov declined to elaborate on Russia’s specific “red lines,” stating that “megaphone diplomacy is not helpful” in such sensitive negotiations.
Witkow’s trip to Moscow coincides with reports of progress, albeit with the acknowledgement from U.S. and Ukrainian sources that significant work remains to be done. The success of these talks could prove vital in de-escalating tensions and fostering a path towards lasting peace in the region. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as this story develops.
