Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has authorized an additional quota of 2,000 Hajj permits specifically for citizens aged 70 and above. This initiative aims to provide a greater opportunity for elderly Algerians to fulfill their religious pilgrimage.
The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning has announced that this special allocation is for citizens who registered for the Hajj lottery for the 1447 AH/2026 season, are 70 years of age or older, and have registered at least ten times without success in the regular lottery.
The Ministry confirmed that a special lottery for this category will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Wilaya (province) headquarters or any suitable location chosen by local authorities. The eligible citizens or their representatives will be present to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process.
To be eligible for this quota, citizens must meet specific criteria: they must be 70 years of age or older and have registered for the Hajj lottery at least ten times previously without being selected. Individuals who do not meet both of these conditions will not be considered.
This presidential decision reflects the state’s commitment to enabling senior citizens to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, recognizing their contributions to society, and ensuring equitable opportunities for all citizens within the official procedures governing this religious season.
This measure underscores the government’s dedication to supporting its elderly population and facilitating their spiritual aspirations.
