DOHA, Qatar – Sudan’s national team coach, Kwasi Appiah, has issued a confident challenge to Algeria ahead of their highly anticipated clash in the opening round of Group D matches at the 2025 Arab Cup. Appiah acknowledged the daunting task facing his squad but emphasized the profound significance of the match for the Sudanese people, who are currently enduring a period of intense hardship.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s encounter at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Appiah asserted that the game against the reigning champions, Algeria, provides an opportunity for the ‘Falcons of Jediane’ to showcase their resilience and determination to secure a positive result. Following the Algeria match on December 3rd, Sudan will face Iraq on December 6th and Bahrain on December 9th at Education City Stadium.
Appiah highlighted the heightened motivation within the Sudanese camp. “We are approaching this tournament with immense determination,” he stated. “Starting against the titleholders will undoubtedly be a challenge, but I have full confidence in my players’ ability to demonstrate their fighting spirit.” He further explained that the difficult security situation in Sudan serves as an additional incentive for the players to bring joy to their supporters and offer a beacon of hope amidst the prevailing circumstances.
While acknowledging Algeria’s formidable reputation as one of Africa’s strongest teams, Appiah expressed optimism about Sudan’s chances. “Algeria is a powerful team, but we also possess players capable of making a difference. He explained that the Al-Hilal players, who recently joined the squad after their participation in the CAF Champions League, will undergo assessment before a decision is made regarding their inclusion in the starting lineup.
