DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria is bracing for a period of intense weather, with several provinces across the nation expected to experience heavy rainfall, snowfall, and strong winds. According to the national weather service, a significant weather disturbance will impact the country starting today.
A series of special weather alerts have been issued, warning of locally heavy thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 50mm in some areas. These storms may also bring hail. The affected provinces include Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Chlef, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Mascara, Relizane, Tiaret, and Tissemsilt. The alert for these provinces is in effect until 11 PM tonight.
A second alert, beginning at midday today and extending until 6 AM tomorrow, Thursday, warns of similar heavy thunderstorms (exceeding 50mm) for the provinces of Ain Defla, Tipaza, Algiers, Blida, Medea, Boumerdes, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Setif, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf.
Additionally, moderate to locally heavy thunderstorms are anticipated from midday today until dawn tomorrow in Bordj Bou Arreridj, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Khenchela, Tebessa, Biskra, Ouled Djellal, El M’Ghair, El Oued, Touggourt, Ouargla, Djelfa, Laghouat, Ghardaia, El Menia, and El Bayadh.
Significant snowfall is expected in some western and southwestern provinces from midday until 9 PM, particularly in Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, and El Bayadh.
The weather service also forecasts strong winds, potentially lasting until midnight, in Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Naama, El Bayadh, Saida, Tiaret, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, Ghardaia, El Menia, Touggourt, Ouargla, Tebessa, and Bechar. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
