Algiers – A major international drug trafficking network has been dismantled by the National Gendarmerie’s Research and Investigation Section in Cheraga, DZWatch has learned. The operation resulted in the arrest of ten individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal importation, trafficking, possession, and storage of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
According to a statement released by the National Gendarmerie, the operation was launched following precise intelligence gathering. Intensive investigations and specialized investigative techniques were employed to identify members of the network and track their movements across several provinces. This was achieved through close coordination with relevant judicial authorities, as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime in all its forms.
The operation led to the apprehension of ten individuals, including one woman. Many of those arrested have prior criminal records and were subject to arrest warrants. Authorities seized 16,921 capsules of pregabalin, a psychotropic substance, with a strength of 300mg, and 14 ketileptic tablets. 19 vehicles and two trucks were also confiscated. In addition, approximately 340,000 Algerian dinars in criminal proceeds were recovered, alongside mobile phones used in the illicit activities.
Pregabalin is a medication that can cause euphoria and has been abused as a recreational drug. The seizure of such a large quantity highlights the scale of the illegal operation and the potential harm it could have caused to public health.
Following the completion of all legal procedures, the suspects will be presented before the competent judicial authorities in the region to complete the investigation. The authorities are committed to fighting drug trafficking at all levels to protect the nation.
This successful operation underscores the National Gendarmerie’s commitment to combating organized crime and protecting the safety and security of Algerian citizens. The investigation is ongoing, and further details may be released as they become available.
DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story.
