Paris, France – A rally in support of a unified Algeria and against attempts to destabilize the nation was held in Paris on Sunday. Organized by the “Solidarity Network and Algerian Citizens” and the “Unitary Gathering of Free French Algerians,” the demonstration took place at Place de la Nation.
The organizers stated the rally’s theme was “For a United, Progressive, and Indivisible Algeria.” The event comes amid rising tensions fueled by external actors allegedly seeking to undermine Algeria, particularly through the use of the Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie (MAK), which is classified as a terrorist organization by the Algerian government.
The organizers strongly condemned what they describe as neo-colonial forces attempting to erode the country’s national cohesion by promoting hostile rhetoric and supporting separatist movements. They likened the current political and media campaign against Algeria to outdated colonial tactics, accusing unnamed entities of spreading misleading narratives to turn public opinion against the country.
A statement released by the organizers directly accuses elements within the French establishment of supporting the MAK. According to the statement, the MAK would not dare target Algeria’s unity without this backing, along with the support of Zionist and other external forces working to weaken the Algerian state. The statement also referenced French President Macron’s 2017 acknowledgment that French colonization of Algeria was a crime against humanity.
The organizers also highlighted the significance of the rally’s date, December 14th, claiming it was deliberately chosen to coincide with the anniversary of UN General Assembly Resolution 1514, which called for an end to colonialism. This date holds profound symbolic importance for Algerians, representing their struggle for self-determination and national unity. They believe attempts to disrupt this anniversary aim to undermine national consensus.
The Algerian community in France aims to reaffirm its commitment to the country’s unity and reject all attempts at political or external exploitation of a settled national issue.
